1. Who we are
This Privacy Notice describes how Markix ("we", "us", "our") collects and uses personal data when you visit markix.click. Markix is the data controller for the personal data described here.
You can contact us at any time at info@markix.click.
2. The personal data we collect
We collect a limited set of data when you use the site:
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referrer.
- Usage data: pages viewed, time spent, scroll depth, clicks on outbound operator links.
- Consent data: the cookie preference you set on first visit.
- Communication data: if you email us, we receive the content of your message and your email address.
We do not ask for or collect names, addresses, payment details or account information. We do not sell personal data to third parties.
3. Lawful basis for processing
Under Article 6 of the UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases:
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Operating the website (essential cookies, age verification) | Legitimate interests |
| Analytics — understanding how readers use our reviews | Consent |
| Affiliate click tracking | Consent |
| Responding to your email enquiries | Legitimate interests |
4. How we use your data
We process the data described above to:
- Operate, secure and improve the Markix website.
- Measure how readers engage with our editorial content.
- Comply with our legal obligations, including under the UKGC's affiliate marketing guidance.
- Reply to messages you send to us.
5. Cookies
We use cookies in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). For full details — including the cookies we set, their purpose, and how to manage your preferences — see our Cookie Settings page.
6. Sharing your data
We share limited data with:
- Analytics providers (Google Analytics) — only with your consent, for the purpose of measuring site usage in aggregate.
- Hosting and CDN providers — to deliver the site to your browser.
- Affiliate networks and operators — when you click an operator link, the receiving site is informed of the click via standard affiliate tracking.
- Public authorities — only where we are legally required, such as a valid request from the Information Commissioner's Office or law enforcement.
7. International transfers
Some of the providers above may store data outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we rely on UK-approved transfer mechanisms — the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), an adequacy decision, or the appropriate Standard Contractual Clauses with a UK Addendum.
8. How long we keep data
We keep technical logs for up to 90 days. Analytics data is retained for up to 26 months. Cookie preferences are stored locally in your browser until you clear them. Email correspondence is kept for two years from the date of last contact.
9. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete data we hold (the "right to be forgotten").
- Restriction — ask us to stop processing data while a request is being resolved.
- Objection — object to processing that relies on legitimate interests.
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@markix.click. We will respond within one calendar month.
Right to complain: If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by phone on 0303 123 1113. We would, however, appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.
10. Security
We use HTTPS (TLS) for all traffic, restrict access to logs, and follow the principle of data minimisation — collecting only what is necessary. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the limited data we hold.
11. Children
Markix is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data about anyone under 18. If you believe a child has interacted with the site, please contact us so we can remove any associated data.
12. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change.
